Skyscanner: The Azores, Havana and Tokyo in 2016 top destinations

Skyscanner has analysed millions of flight searches to find locations where interest has increased the most

A brand new bucket list including the Azores, Havana and Tokyo are among the surprising Skyscanner predictions for 2016’s top destinations. The search engine has analysed millions of flight searches to find locations where interest has increased the most.

Hot spots range from a new set of all-inclusive destinations like Cape Verde to destinations such as Copenhagen. Searches for Ponta Delgada have increased the most, boasting a 63 per cent increase over the last three years.

 Sunny break

As dailymail.co.uk comments, with the chill of winter taking grip many are already starting to look into booking a sunny break for next year.

Although cities such as Tokyo are high on some people’s wanderlust lists, there are a number of less obvious destinations that could become must-see hot spots of 2016.

Global travel search engine Skyscanner has released its predictions of the destinations to watch with results ranging from the new set of all-inclusive destinations including Cape Verde to more intrepid locations, such as the Azores.

Top destination of 2016

The data was compiled by analysing millions of Skyscanner flight searches from the last three years and by finding the locations that had increased in interest most dramatically.

Searches for the autonomous region of Ponta Delgada in Portugal have risen the most, boasting a 63 per cent increase in recent years.

Destinations such as Havana in Cuba and Sal in Cape Verde are also growing in popularity, experiencing an increase in interest by 33 per cent and 14 per cent respectively.

Commenting on the findings, Skyscanner’s travel editor Cat McGloin said: ‘With 50 million searches to the site every month from all over the world, our search data gives us some really robust insight in to these trends. It’s interesting to see how people’s travel interests are changing and what these destinations are offering to become even more appealing.’
