Jet setters prefer Greek islands for Christmas

Mark Smith of Simplexity Travel Management said that for sun, lots of clients go to St. Bart’s, Tenerife or the Greek Islands

Whether you’re looking to host 30 people at a ultra private villa in the Virgin Islands or you need someone to troubleshoot when the mega yacht you hired is too big for the marina (true story), Mark Smith of Simplexity Travel Management is your man, according to Forbes magazine.

With a background managing travel in the entertainment industry and Premier League Football Club, he is well-versed in coordinating spectacular, one-of-a-kind experiences for a demanding clientele, so Forbes’ contributor Valerie Denny spoke with him to find out some of his biggest requests and where the jetsetting crowd will be spending New Year’s Eve this year and listed them in the following interview:

What are some of the most elaborate NYE parties and holidays you’ve planned?

Last year we booked a villa for a well-known Canadian musician and his family at Hale Ohia in Maui for Christmas and New Year’s. We arranged everything from entertainment to transfers and a private chef to flights from the US and South America. We took care of the riders – everything that needed to be available at the house. We planned football-themed nights for the family and also arranged as a gift from staff of the client to fly a UK photographer to take some family shots.

We also arranged the Falcon’s Nest Villa on Peter Island in the Virgin Islands for a well-known UK musician and his family. He didn’t want to bring any security so the location had to be very private. The client’s partner had a birthday and requested a cake that looked exactly like a Chanel bag.  We had it made on a bigger island and brought over. Nothing’s too big of a request as long as there is the budget for it.

What are the hot destinations right now for Christmas/NYE trips?

We are finding a lot more people are spending Christmas and NYE in the Middle East — Dubai is always popular as well as up-and-coming Oman and Muscat. We also have a number of key clients renting chalets in ski destinations.

For sun, lots of clients go to St. Bart’s, Tenerife or the Greek Islands.

Where’s the best place to spend New Years in London?

People usually want to leave London on New Years. All the big hotels have gala dinners, but there’s nothing extraordinary going on. It’s better to get out to the countryside. Try Coworth Park in Ascot which has fireworks and wine tastings. The Grove in Hertfordshire or The Hampshire are great picks.
