The number of Russian tourists who used to spend their holidays abroad and will be convinced now to switch to domestic resorts in the summer of 2016, will hardly exceed 2 million people.
This prediction was made today by Russian Union of Tourist Industry (PCT) press secretary Irina Turina, speaking on Interfax.ru.
Decrease in income
Ms Turina admitted that experts estimates for the next summer season differ, but estimated that the supply of travel packages will be greater than the demand, due to the continuing decrease in Russian customers income, which will affect even Krasnodar and Crimea hotels.
She conceded that others believe that Russians’ interest in seaside holidays will remain high not causing problems in these areas, but excluded, however, the possibility that 8-10 million Russians who travelled abroad, will be contained within Russian resorts.
Recreation opportunities
On Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets said that the state should create opportunities for recreation in Russia so that almost 8 million Russians will be directed to local resorts, after the ban on travel to Turkey and Egypt.
This number is considered not realistic by tour operators who remind that both countries attracted about 7 million Russians and a drop in demand by 40% would entail that about 4 million of those would theoretically visit Egypt and Turkey next year.
Five-star level services
Only half of them could switch to domestic destinations in 2016, since there aren’t enough quality hotels to attract tourists, who are used to five-star level services in these countries.
Especially if hotels in local resorts attempt to raise prices without proper service, their compatriot travellers are certain not to step foot there again…
