UNESCO Award to Halkidiki for Aristotle

The Greek Prefecture of Halkidiki was honored at this year’s World Tourism Expo and World Heritage Cities and Sites in Padova

A special award for philosopher Aristotle and overall contribution to World Heritage was given to the Greek Prefecture of Halkidiki at this year’s World Tourism Expo and World Heritage Cities and Sites in Padova.

The award was accepted by the Halkidiki Tourism Organization (CTO), which in conjuction with the Agenzia di Viaggi tourism network showed the region’s tourism and cultural attractions.

The HTO committed itself to advertising the region and its activities throughout 2016 and it was announced that Italian RAI International Television has been filming in Halkidiki, Serres, Thessaloniki and Pella for a five-episode series devoted to Aristotle and Alexander the Great.

The Organization is also holding culinary happenings for the promotion of local products and gastronomy such as hosting Italian magazine Bell’ Europa journalists, who delved into the concept of “Slow Food and Nature” by tasting the monastic cooking at Mt Athos and visiting regional farms and producers.
