Athens will be without metro, suburban railway and trains on Thursday (Nov 12) as workers will participate in the 24-hour strike called by Greece’s two biggest unions, GSEE and ADEDY.
An increasing number of unions are joining forces with them in protest at austerity measures and controversial reforms mandated by Greece’s new bailout deal with international creditors.
Closed sites and museums
Among the sectors that will be affected by the action are archaeological sites and museums, as well as all levels of the civil service, which will remain closed throughout the day.
Hospitals will be working with skeleton staff only, while public transport will also be disrupted, with service halted on the Athens metro, the Proastiakos suburban railway and the national rail network.
The only public transportation available in Athens on Thursday will be the ISAP electric railway and tram, running from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., as well as buses and trolley buses, from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.
