Thomas Cook: The best beaches of Thassos

Thomas Cook blog: "there is nothing better than whiling away the day on a gorgeous beach…on a tranquil island…with the sun high in the sky..."

The five 5 best beaches of Thassos are presented on the blog of prominent tour operator Thomas Cook.

According to the publication, there is nothing better than whiling away the day on a gorgeous beach…on a tranquil island…with the sun high in the sky.

Many and varied beaches

For many of us, the blog underlines, “a great beach is the reason we choose our Summer holiday destination – it’s often more important than the hotel we’re kipping in at night. And for good reason! With up to 12 hours of sunshine per day during high season, the beach is where we’ll spend the majority of our time, and make those much cherished holiday memories“.

Thomas Cook experts report that Thassos’ beaches are many and varied – with long sandy stretches and quiet coves to suit every kind of holidaymaker, young or old, coupled-up or with the family and advise travelers to visit this picturesque Greek island, and give the following top 5 beaches a try…

Paradise Beach

This beautiful spot on the south of the island is perfect for families with young children – a lovely spot to paddle and swim with calm, shallow waters. It’s easy to lie-back and relax here, with stunning views of rolling green mountains forming the backdrop to one of Thassos’ most popular beaches. If you prefer your days to be more active though, then you’re in the right place too – Paradise beach is an excellent place to windsurf.

Saliara

Known as the Marble Beach because of the smooth marble pebbles you can see on the seafloor, this beach really is picture-perfect with its crystal clear waters and white sand. If you crave tranquillity, then this is the beach for you – there really is nothing more to do here than take in the spectacular view, and watch the small yachts and local boats pass by. We say get stuck into a good book, beneath the beaming Greek sunshine. Ah, bliss…

Alyki

There are two gulfs in Alyki, which cater to holidaymakers looking for different kinds of beach experiences. If it’s a bustling vibe you’re looking for, head to the west side – it’s lined with plenty of tavernas which serve from breakfast to dinner, and well into the small hours too. For a quieter experience, occupy the eastern gulf where there are far less amenities (read: come prepared!). It’s the tell tale Greek beach, with white sands and clear waters, surrounded by lush pines and olive trees.

Limenaria

Just 500 meters from the town center, this sandy stretch of beach is a popular tourist resort lined with family hotels and numerous fish restaurants. Limenaria will suit families with children with bags of endless energy – there is plenty of windsurfing and water-skiing for them to enjoy here, in-between running along the long stretches of sand and larking around in the sea.

Skala Kalirachi

This ‘rough and ready’ rocky beach may not be everyone’s holiday beach ideal, but many will appreciate its truly natural surrounds and the host of lush greenery which forms a pretty backdrop to the beach. Year after year, Skala Kalirachi proves an idyllic place to relax as still few tourists know to venture here. Perfect if you want to get away from it all…
