A group of about 80 tour operator agents from Sicily visited the Mayor of Heraklion Mr. Vassilis Labrinos at the Loggia yesterday , as part of the European Program for Tourism Season Lengthening.
The program provides for exchanging visitors between Mediterranean countries at times when tourist traffic slows down.
Thus, Cretans shall be able to visit Spain, Portugal, Malta, Sicily, Naples and Bari with chartered flights and, at the same time, foreign visitors from the aforementioned areas will choose Heraklion as a unique tourist destination.
These short trips are scheduled for the months of September, October and November as well as of March, April and May.
After welcoming his foreign guests, the Mayor of Heraklion expressed the municipality’s strong interest in the program for lengthening the tourist season as well as the establishment of Heraklion as a unique destination for short vacations (city break)
The Sicilian tour operators answered that they were deeply impressed by the Venetian Loggia, the Cretan hospitality and the local attractions and thanked the Mayor for the warm welcome.
